Post Natal Care : Mother and Child Care

Post natal care should be a continuation of the care the woman has received through her pregnancy, labour and birth and take into account the woman’s individual needs and preferences. The post natal period can be defined as the first 6-8 weeks after birth.
There is consensus that the postpartum period begins upon birth of the newborn. The end is less well defined, but is often considered the six to eight weeks after birth because the effects of pregnancy on many systems have largely returned to the prepregnancy state by this time.
Childbirth is not only draining, but also leads to elevated Vata dosha. As a result, the mother may experience digestive issues, such as acidity, bloating, indigestion, etc. Therefore, eating simple foods that do not strain your digestive system or aggravate the Vata dosha further is recommended which will keep you away from any digestive problems

Here are a few dietary recommendations to curb the after-effects of labor.

Low-Fat Dairy Products
Legumes
Blueberries
Oranges
Leafy Greens
Brown Rice
Whole-Wheat Bread
Fiber-rich foods to ease constipation
As your digestive system gains strength and your appetite grow, you can resume your regular diet and gradually introduce complex foods into your meals.
It is just as important to stay active in your postnatal phase as during pregnancy. Some women may experience chronic weakness after giving birth, and that’s normal to some extent. However, don’t let the lethargy be carried into the subsequent chapters of your life as a mother.

The goal is to keep moving and get adequate exercise in a day, so you don’t get rusty sitting in one place.

Low-Impact Exercises
You’ve got to start somewhere, even if you don’t feel like it. How about a brisk walk or a casual stroll down the street? If it’s safe, consider heading out for a short walk with your baby in the stroller. You might bump into a neighbor or make new friends while you are at it. As you regain some of your strength, you can join yoga.
During pregnancy and labor, your pelvic floor muscles bear the most brunt and often lose their strength. You can get your pelvic muscles back to 100% by performing gentle yet targeted exercises combined with post-pregnancy treatments.
